In Another World With My Smartphone Character Analysis

Once more, ancient wisdom rises to the challenge as Sun Tzu's brilliance rates a fresh cast of modern anime legends.

As a quick refresher, here's how the rating system works. Sun Tzu cited Five Essential Victory Factors: Morality, Weather, Terrain, Good Leadership, and Preparation. Those under consideration can earn 0-10 points each here. However, he also cited Five Fatal Failings of Leadership: Recklessness, Cowardice, A Hasty Temper (Anger, for simplicity), Delicacy of Honor (DOH), and Caring too much about the troops (Over-caring). Those under consideration can lose 0-10 points in each. At the end, the scores are tallied, with each character aiming for 40 or better.

This time, we'll be analyzing a special character set: the protagonist and the first set of his soon-to-be wives from the first season of In Another World With My Smartphone. To keep things fair, we'll analyze them in the order they're formally introduced, plus we'll also keep things confined to the events of the first season.

Character Analysis: Mochizuki Touya

Morality	10	He's an amazing person, so much so God told him in the beginning, "You've a very kind heart."
Weather	10	Due to his increased physicality, adept use of his smartphone, and divine gift for magic, this isn't an issue.
Terrain	10	He's got a great eye and is quite adept at using his smartphone and spells (most notably Gate and Long Sense) to navigate, so this isn't an issue either.
Good Leadership	6	He's okay, but is still growing as a leader, although he does improve throughout the season.
Preparation	10	He's very capable, especially when learning new spells, as well as combining such with technology, like when he used the dragon fang to make Brunhilde.

Recklessness	-8	Serious red flag. He often underestimates others, especially the girls in his life, and is very impulsive, like when he accidentally insulted Leen about her age.
Cowardice	-7	Slight red flag. He's shy and insecure around his various love interests, especially as their number increases.
Anger	-5	He's got a slight temper, one that seems to slowly escalate throughout the season; he's also getting more easily triggered, usually by Francesca.
Delicacy of Honor	-7	Slight red flag. He's pretty cocky, and his pride does occasionally get him into trouble, Francesca again being the biggest source.
Over-caring	-7	Slight red flag. He cares deeply about his various love interests, and he's also got a strong need to protect others, like when he saved Renee from the thugs.

Good Leadership	4	She tends to vary between follower and lone wolf, mostly depending on her moods.
Preparation	5	She's great at combat training, but tends to wing things everywhere else.

Anger	-8	Serious red flag. She's got a short fuse, especially when she's embarrassed, and often lashes out, most infamously when Touya tried to kiss her at the end.
Delicacy of Honor	-7	Slight red flag. She's very cocky, plus she's also extremely proud, like when she snapped at the thugs in the beginning.
Over-caring	-8	Serious red flag. Not only does she love Touya, she also dotes on her sister.

Anger	-7	She's got a temper, one that's mostly triggered when she's jealous…something that happens quite frequently.

Preparation	7	She's very capable thanks to her magic (especially her Null spell Program), but mostly uses such for pranks or silliness, like giving her teddy bear Paula the ability to move.

Over-caring	-3	She cares for Paula, and she respects Touya, but not much else.

Reviewing the Results

This was a truly mixed bag, and no doubt a huge part of why their collective fortunes were such a roller coaster ride. Then again, as has been said all along: follow Sun Tzu, and you'll win; ignore him, and you'll lose.
